TEK MICROSYSTEMS ANNOUNCES 3.0+ GSPS VXS D/A PRODUCTS

Dual 12-bit DAC Output Orion-V5 VXS – 3.0+ Gsps per Channel
Combined ADC and DAC Triton-V5 – 2.2 Gsps ADC, 3.0+ Gsps DAC

Chelmsford, MA – April 16, 2009 –TEK Microsystems, Incorporated, the leading supplier of VXS-based digitizers, has announced two new members of its QuiXilica-V5 VXS Family.  The new Orion-V5 VXS features two 12-bit digital to analog converter (DAC) channels each operating at up to 3.0 Gsps (Gigasamples per second).  The Triton-V5 features one 10-bit, 2.2 Gsps analog to digital converter (ADC) channel with one 12-bit, 3.0 Gsps DAC channel.  Both products are the first COTS products to take advantage of 4 GHz DAC devices.

These new ANSI/VITA 41 (VME/VXS) compliant 6U high-speed digitizer boards combine high density FPGA processing with ultimate ADC and DAC performance to provide unprecedented capability for developers who need ultra wide band signal generation.

“The new Orion-V5 and Triton-V5 expand Tekmicro’s QuiXilica-V5 product line and provide first-in-the-industry levels of high performance, low latency, and signal integrity. Both the Orion and Triton products feature sample accurate synchronization across multiple boards, enabling solutions for multi-channel applications that were cumbersome or even impossible to solve with alternative products”, comments Andy Reddig, CEO/CTO of Tekmicro.  “By combining a high performing ADC and DAC on one board, Triton-V5 redefines low latency by providing almost instantaneous acquisition to response times when compared with architectures using multiple boards or modules.  The QuiXilica products: Orion-V5, Neptune-V5 and Triton-V5 give customers in the high-performance signal processing arena performance options that were previously not available without custom design.”

Orion-V5 Multi-channel DAC Ideal for Synchronized Multi-channel Outputs
Orion-V5 uses two 12-bit DAC output channels each performing at up to 3.0+ Gsps combined with three Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGAs. Depending on configuration, the Orion-V5 delivers up to 2,336 DSP slices with 1.3 TeraMAC/s of signal processing power.

Each DAC is matched to an FPGA, leaving the third FPGA available for additional channel processing or system control functions.   Through a combination of hardware and firmware, Tekmicro has achieved sample-accurate synchronization for multiple channels across an entire chassis.  The sample accurate synchronization provides unprecedented accuracy for multi-channel signal generation applications such as threat simulation or beam steering.

Orion-V5 uses the non-interpolating Euvis MD653D which has a bandwidth of 4 GHz.  Although the sample rate is limited to 3.0 Gsps by currently qualified FPGA technology, the DAC analog performance is better at 3.0 Gsps than the previous generation device, and as newer FPGA technology is inserted the Orion and Triton products will be upgradeable to support the full sample rate of 4 Gsps.

The DAC output is AC coupled and may be single-ended or differential.  The full scale output is -4 dBm (0.4V p-p) into 50 ohms. The DAC may be operated in normal-hold mode, or for extended operation into the 2nd Nyquist band, in Return to Zero (RZ) mode.

Orion-V5 paired with our 2.2 Gsps dual channel ADC Neptune-V5 board, offers developers in high channel count signal processing applications such as RADAR, signals and electronic intelligence (SIGINT / ELINT), and Electronic Warfare (EW) unique solutions.

The Orion-V5 is available for a wide range of operating environments, including commercial grade, rugged air and conduction cooled.

Triton-V5 ADC DAC For Coherent Signal Acquisition and Response
Triton-V5 uses one 10-bit 2.2 Gsps ADC channel co-located with one 12-bit DAC performing at up to 3.0 Gsps combined with three Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGAs.  Like the Orion-V5, the Triton-V5 is based on our QuiXilica-V5 VXS carrier board architecture and delivers up to 2,336 DSP slices with 1.3 TeraMAC/s of signal processing power.
The balanced ADC/DAC of the Triton-V5 achieves ultra low latency from acquisition to response that is critical in jamming and RADAR decoy applications.   The ADC and DAC can use a common clock, which can be synchronized across multiple boards, or independent clocks, depending on the specific application requirements.

The  Triton-V5  uses  the E2V AT84AS008 ADC.  The Triton-V5 DAC is latest version of the non-interpolating Euvis MD653D operating at up to 4 Gsps.  Although the sample rate is limited to 3.0 Gsps by currently qualified FPGA technology, the DAC offers enhanced analog performance over the previous generation device, and as newer FPGA technology is inserted the Orion and Triton products will be upgradeable to support the full sample rate of 4 Gsps.

The Triton-V5 is available for a wide range of operating environments, including commercial grade, rugged air and conduction cooled.

Both the Orion-V5 VXS and Triton-V5 are available now, with delivery from stock to 8 weeks ARO.
