Chelmsford-based TEK Microsystems, Inc. Wins

2014 Massachusetts Small Business Manufacturer of the Year Award

BOSTON – TEK Microsystems, Inc. (Tekmicro) of Chelmsford has been named the winner of the 2014 Massachusetts Small Business Manufacturer of the Year award according to an announcement by Robert Nelson, Massachusetts SBA District Director.

The Small Business Manufacturer of the Year award is presented annually to an outstanding small business manufacturer that has received SBA assistance and has a successful track record. The selection for this award was based on the following criteria: staying power, growth in number of employees, increase in sales and/or unit volume, innovation of product or service, and response to adversity and community contributions.  The company was nominated for this award by Tony Zhang, a Vice President with Middlesex Savings Bank.

The company, founded in 1981 by MIT graduates Andy and Kirian Reddig, provides high performance signal acquisition and processing solutions to defense and intelligence customers. Their products are building blocks for deployed systems that, quite simply, help save lives of US and allied forces in battlefield situations. All research and development activity is performed by Tekmicro employees while the required manufacturing is outsourced to trusted local partners where possible to support the economy.

“TEK Microsystems shows us all how far local manufacturing has come in the 21st century,” said Nelson. “This company focuses its efforts on providing specific products that require customization to meet their customers’ needs, and they work hard to grow the local economy during the process. We could not be more delighted to honor them today and during our awards celebration next month.”

Andrew Reddig will be honored at an SBA awards breakfast along with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2014 winners at Lombardo’s on May 13, 2014.
