Overview
The QuiXstore™ UWB data recorder platform provides unparalleled real-time data recording density using system-on-chip technology integrated with standard off-the-shelf hardware components. The foundation of the QuiXstore UWB data recorder is the QuiXilica Callisto VXS board and Tekmicro’s real-time FAT32 software. Customers can select the right QuiXilica digitizer to tailor a fully functional data recording system to their project requirements. Click the block diagram to enlarge.
QuiXstore UWB data recorders support recording rates of multiple gigabytes per second sustained continuously for periods of up to several hours.
Scalable Solution
A single CallistoVXS board can support sustained recording rates of up to 1.8 GB/s. This data is streamed in real-time to one or more RAID arrays. The number of Callisto VXS boards, the number of RAID arrays and the storage capacity can all be selected based on individual customer requirements. The system can be expanded at a later date.
Flexible Solution
QuiXstore UWB platforms are available for a wide-range of recording applications: from a stand-alone digital data collection tool to fully integrated analog front-ends with triggering and timestamp capability. QuiXstore UWB platforms are compatible with all QuiXilica digitizers, supporting sample frequencies up to to 2.2 GSPS.
Standard Filesystem
All QuiXstore UWB platforms use standard off-the-shelf FibreChannel attached RAID storage arrays. Data is written to the array using a standard FAT32 filesystem. This allows all recorded data to be accessed easily from any workstation, equipped with a FibreChannel Host Bus Adapter, without the need for any special software.
All QuiXstore UWB platforms include an integrated FibreChannel hub, allowing the complete array of disks to be presented to an attached workstation without the need for any additional SAN switches or physical re-arrangement of fiber links.
VXS-based Architecture
Data is transported to the QuiXstore UWB system over a VXS backplane. By occupying VXS switch slots, ultra-wideband input data rates can be supported with a single 6U Callisto VXS board. Two Callisto VXS boards can be combined for even greater data rates and support for both single-star and dual-star backplane topologies.
QuiXstore UWB ControlCenter™ Software
All QuiXstore UWB data recorder platforms can be controlled using Tekmicro’s QuiXstore UWB ControlCenter software. Multiple recorder systems can be controlled from a single Windows GUI. Recording sessions can be configured, started, stopped & deleted through the easy-to-use interface.
Seamless integration
The QuiXstore UWB Software Developer’s Kit integrates control of the data recorder system into customer application software. All functions of the data recorder can be controlled using a C++ class available through a Windows DLL or Linux shared object library.
Analog Front-end Options
QuiXstore UWB platforms are available as fully integrated systems with Quixilica digitizers providing complete analog data recording functionality without requiring customer-developed firmware. Additional QuiXstore system-on-chip components can be added to the digitizer to maximize data recording rates. QuiXilica digitizers support sample-accurate triggering and timestamp insertion.
Open Architecture Options
For applications where the data sources are digital, or where pre-processing of digitized signals is required, the QuiXstore UWB is available as an open architecture without an integrated front-end data source. Customers can insert proprietary signal processing and/or data formatting logic onto the VXS payload card, directly supplying the QuiXstore UWB recorder streams with data.
Typical pre-processing steps include down-conversion, decimation, signal detection and data-driven triggering.
When using this interface, a small component is provided that can be instantiated on any Quixilica payload card and provides interface to the VXS backplane using the Aurora protocol (VITA 41.5).
Up to ten 180 MB/s data streams are available per Callisto VXS. These can be allocated to payload slots according to the customer’s requirements. Both single-star and dual-star backplane topologies are supported. For example:
- 1 payload board can support up to 10 data streams;
- 2 payload boards can support up to 5 data streams each;
- 4 or 5 payload boards can support 2 data streams each.
